Saving Punjab and Peers Honoured with Prestigious Awards for Advocacy and Impact
Saving Punjab, a leading advocacy organisation dedicated to highlighting and addressing issues in Punjab through research, has been recognised with two esteemed awards over the past six months. These accolades underscore its significant contributions not only to the local community but also to global awareness, emphasizing the far-reaching impact of its work. Alongside, Harjot Singh, Solicitor Advocate & Director at Twinwood Law Practice, was also honoured, marking a series of commendable achievements in advocacy.
In December 2023, the head of Saving Punjab, Gurpreet Singh, was honoured with the Special Contribution and Recognition Award by the APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) for British Sikhs. The APPG for British Sikhs celebrated Gurpreet Singh’s efforts in campaigning and raising awareness of Punjab’s pressing issues and speaking about these issues at the United Nations. The ceremony, attended by MP Preet Kaur Gill, Chair of the APPG for British Sikhs, and numerous MPs, highlighted Saving Punjab’s impactful work and dedication.
Further acclaim was received at the Sikhs in Law Award Ceremony held on April 30, 2024, at The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, where Gurpreet Singh was bestowed with the Global Impact Award. This accolade recognised his and Saving Punjab’s successful research-backed campaigns that have significantly contributed to spreading awareness about Punjab’s challenges globally. The ceremony featured keynotes from prominent community leaders, including America’s first Sikh judge, Manpreet Singh.
Sharing the spotlight, Harjot Singh was also awarded the Global Impact Award at the same ceremony for his exceptional legal battle against the Home Office’s controversial Rwanda plans. His pivotal role took the case to the Supreme Court, which ruled the removal of asylum seekers to Rwanda as unlawful, setting a precedent in human rights law.
These awards recognise the pivotal roles in advocating for justice and raising awareness at an international level. Saving Punjab remains committed to its mission of research and advocacy, aiming to foster change and better understanding worldwide.
